The route takes about 45 to 60 minutes each way. The trail climbs steadily up the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, reaching elevations up to 2,500 meters.

Expect a dirt and clay path that becomes very slippery during the rainy season. Wear closed-toe hiking shoes with deep treads for safe footing. As you walk, you will pass local farms and cross small streams.

Agricultural sections line the edges of the main hiking trail. Local farmers maintain these productive plots year-round. You can see how the Chagga people grow crops on the steep mountain slopes. Ask your guide to explain their traditional intercropping methods.

Kilimanjaro Viewpoints

Several clearings along the path break through the forest canopy. These gaps provide clear sightlines to the Kibo peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Hike early in the day for the highest visibility. Afternoon clouds typically roll in and obscure the snow-capped summit.
